About

Counsellors who know the work

Two counsellors, one aim: support that fits remote, seasonal and high-pressure work.

Sam Usher

Sam Usher

Counsellor & psychotherapist, Fernie, BC · Credentials to be confirmed by Sam

Before counselling, Sam worked in mining, forestry, ski patrol, avalanche operations, first aid and wilderness guiding: places where people are expected to keep going and stay capable. Sam understands demanding workplace cultures, shift and camp life, and critical incidents, because Sam has lived them.

The approach is person-centred, grounded and practical. Sessions are conversations, not clinical analysis, and you don't need to arrive with answers. Sam can be direct when it helps, and always moves at your pace.

Works with adults (18+) on: stress, burnout and overwhelm; anxiety; workplace stress and high-pressure environments; life transitions; ADHD; post-critical-incident stress; injury recovery and return to work.

Where: in person in Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford and the Elk Valley, and in Williams Lake and northern BC. Online across BC, Alberta, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Walk-and-talk sessions outdoors.

Stephanie

Stephanie

Clinical counsellor, Calgary, AB · Master of Clinical Counselling (provisional, CPCA) · Counselling Therapist (ACTA)

Stephanie's route into this work began in tree planting, then her own healing work, and a calling to be a helper. Authenticity is the value she holds most, in life and in work, and she helps people notice what they are experiencing now and build the future they want.

Approach: evidence-based interventions, human connection and a dash of humour, drawing on somatics, eco-therapy, inner-child work and parts work. She has a deep interest in trauma resolution and resilience.

Also offers: walk-and-talk sessions, a discovery call before you start, and a program for the silviculture industry.
